MATH CLASSES

PRE-ALGEBRA

7th-12th grades

This Pre-Algebra course (using Saxon Algebra 1/2) uses a spiral and incremental approach to bridge the gap from basic math skills to algebraic concepts. Concepts covered include evaluation and simplification of algebraic expressions, solving linear equations, word problems, ratio, proportion, percent, unit conversions, scientific notation, graphs, statistics, probability, and geometric calculations.

Grading Expectations: Students are expected to actively grade their own daily work with the solutions manual, as they work through the problem sets, and correct any mistakes.

Mrs. Patton will grade all quizzes, tests, and extra credit assignments.

Online Requirements: Students will be required to watch an instructional video for each lesson. It is essential for students to have access to a computer or tablet to complete these requirements.

In Class Requirements: Students will turn in assignments and tests completed for the week. They will also come prepared to ask and answer questions and review previous concepts, through activities or quizzes.

GEOMETRY

This Geometry course (using ATA Geometry by Gina Wilson) is a comprehensive look at the study of geometric concepts including the basic elements of geometry, logic and proofs, parallel and perpendicular lines, congruent and similar triangles, other relationships of lines, angles, polygons, circles, solids, as well as transformations, coordinate geometry, formulas, and an introduction to trigonometry. The ATA Geometry book has a strong foundation in Algebra, so students will not lose their Algebra skills while they study Geometry in depth.
