MIDDLE SCHOOL THEOLOGY-CONFIRMATION PREPARATION YEAR 2
7th-8th grades
God’s plan for our lives is AMAZING! Designed for middle school students preparing for confirmation, the goal of this course is for the students to be inspired and to inspire one another to dynamically live out their Catholic faith! In addition to supplementary materials, this theology course will be focusing on the second half of Chosen: Your Journey toward Confirmation from Ascension Press. Although this is a video-based program, we will not be spending our class time just watching videos! Class time will be used for reinforcement, discussion, inspiration, activities, learning games, and prayer time! During the year, the students will keep an interactive notebook of class materials. This course is designed to be part of a two-year preparation course. Although this course is titled “Year 2”, it can be used for either the first year or second year of confirmation preparation; students may take Year 1 or Year 2 in any order.
Tuition: $20 per month for 9 months ($80 fall/$60 spring after registration deposit)
Supply fee: $35 which includes the textbook from Ascension Press

HIGH SCHOOL THEOLOGY 1
9th-10th grades
The study of God, according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, is meant to be a place of personal encounter with Him. This course attempts to facilitate that encounter, via the Catechism’s framework of 1) education in the Faith, 2) initiation into Christian Life, 3) examination of reasons for belief, and 4) guidance into a lived Christian witness.
Students will follow Fr. Mike Schmitz’s “Catechism in a Year” across four semesters, as the framework for this Theology class. Each week, class discussion will deepen students’ personal understanding of the material, and written reflections will reinforce key points. Periodic memorization & repetition of key passages will help students commit salient points to memory. A prayer journal will encourage students to encounter God personally.
Course goals include a rich understanding of the Catholic Faith as presented in the Catechism, ease discussing the concepts in the Catechism, familiarity with the Catechism as a reference resource to understand the mind of the Church, and lived habits of personal prayer.
Assessments will consist of a weekly class discussion and reflection grade and a cumulative grade on the prayer journal. There will be no final exam.
Homework:
Students will listen to one “day” of Fr. Mike’s podcast for a total of five “days” per week. (Each “day” is approximately 15 minutes long.)

Students who miss class may recoup their class participation and class reflection grades by submitting a detailed paragraph or essay capturing the main points of the week’s material. The essay will be assessed primarily for content and secondarily for a good-faith attempt at correct grammar and punctuation. The prayer will be respectfully assessed* in class the following week.

HIGH SCHOOL THEOLOGY 2
11th-12th grades
2026-27 Theology 2 will focus on ways to bring your faith alive and strengthen your walk with God. We will study the virtues and how practicing them helps us to live as Christians and spread the faith. We will also explore the Bible and read and discuss two spiritual books to supplement our studies. Class time will include discussions and practical ways to live as Catholics in a world that often embraces ideas contrary to Christ’s teachings.
This class is set up to help students grow in faith with minimal academic grading. Grades will be calculated based on the following breakdown: 60% in-class participation, 40% completion of weekly assignments and semester projects.
Our primary text will be Virtue Field Guide (Openlight Media). Some of the books being considered for our two additional texts are:
